Albany Institute of History & Art (AIHA) AIHA is located at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Dove Street in downtown Albany, one block west of the New York State Capitol. From I-787, take the Empire State Plaza exit; bear right onto Swan Street. Follow Swan Street to Elk Street. Turn left into the museum's parking lot. Ample free parking is available in the evening hours during the week. Founded in 1791, the AIHA, one of the oldest museums in the United States, is dedicate to collecting, preserving, interpreting and promoting interest in the history, art and culture of Albany and the Upper Hudson Valley. Atrium The three-story, 2,250 sq. ft. atrium is the centerpiece of the facility, and offers an elegant, contemporary setting for receptions. Linking the museum's historic buildings, this spectacular glass enclosure is an architectural beacon on Washington Avenue and reflects the renaissance of downtown Albany. Rice House The Beaux-Arts style Rice House, restored to its elegant 19th-century splendor, is ideal for meetings, small receptions, or seated meals. On the National Register of Historic Places, the Rice House includes original decorative fireplaces and a private terrace overlooking the museum's green space, with views of the New York State Capitol.
