George Biddle Kelley Scholarship

Program Overview:
Developed in the 1950’s, the GBK Scholarship aims to assist male students who are socioeconomically disadvantaged, from diverse and at-risk communities across the Capital Region. An integral piece to this scholarship is the mentorship component
offered to students throughout their academic pursuit. Juniors are encouraged to apply for the scholarship and participate in
our year long mentorship program. Mentorship activities include preparing and applying for colleges, financial aid, test help
and participating in college fair trips. Seniors can also benefit from our scholarship/mentorship program by participating in our
Finish High School, Finish College initiative with current members of the local Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. on their college
campus.
Eligibility:
In order to be eligible to apply, candidates must be a junior or senior male resident of the Capital Region pursuing a high
school diploma from an accredited public or private school. They must be able to demonstrate that they are
socioeconomically disadvantaged, live and work in diverse environments, possess exceptional leadership skills, scholarship
(maintaining a “B” average 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) and a commitment to community service. Each scholarship
will be paid, in full, upon successfully completing the first semester of college coursework (min. GPA 2.5). The Scholarship
can be used towards any aspect of schooling.
